CRICKET NEWS - The Garden Route Badgers are back in business with a 24-run victory against the Northern Cape Heat in Kimberley on Sunday 2 November.
After a disappointing performance at home on 29 October, when George van Heerden and his troops lost by six wickets against the Eastern Cape Iianyathi, they bounced back against the Heat.
The Badgers, who won the toss, made 164/4 thanks to two crucial partnerships. Yaseen Valli (29 from 25 balls; 2x6, 2x4) and Heath Richards (37 from 31 balls; 1x6, 3x4) were involved in a 51-run partnership for the second wicket, while Richards and the captain, George van Heerden (63*; 41 balls, 7x4), contributed 68 for the third wicket.
Ruan Terblanche also made 31 from 21 balls (1x6, 6x4). For the Heat, Romano Terblanche took two for 34.
Thanks to some splendid fielding and good bowling, the Heat was dismissed for 140 (18.3 overs) with Zack Momberg (3/25), Mondli Ngobesi (3/20) and Liam Alder (2/31) the pick of the bowlers.
For the Heat, Liam Doherty (60 from 32 balls; 1x6, 7x4) was in destructive form. He received good support from Ruan van Rooyen and Romano Terblanche, who both made 26.
The Badgers’ next match will be against the Mpumalanga Rhinos in Oudtshoorn this Saturday, 8 November.
