GEORGE NEWS - Eden’s biathle, triathle and laser run athletes have once again delivered excellent performances at the South African 2026 SA Biathle, Triathle and Laser Run Championships, which were held in Pietermaritzburg from 2 to 4 July.
Months of dedication, early mornings, disciplined training sessions and consistent commitment from athletes, coaches and families paid off, and several athletes won medals in their respective events.
The athletes included in the South African team are Keyla Douglas, Gavin Gericke, Dune Haasbroek, Wanru Haasbroek, Helena Lourens, Jan Meyer, Melissa Meyer, Misha Meyer, Ruan Share, Daniël van Wyngaard, Josef van Wyngaard and Lukas van Wyngaard.
Misha placed first in the biathle and triathle and second in laser run in the U11 girls’ category. Daniël claimed first place in the biathle and laser run and third in triathle in the U13 boys’ category. Keyla won both the biathle and triathle in the U15 girls’ category, while Ruan placed first in the biathle and second in triathle for U15 boys.

Lizandri Koen came third in the biathle in the U19 girls’ category, Josef won the laser run in the M40 category, Jan earned a third place in both the biathle and triathle, Melissa won the laser run and triathle in the senior women’s category and Gavin placed third in the biathle and laser run and first in triathle in the masters 60+ category.
The selected athletes will now continue their preparations for the world championships, which will take place in Madeira, Portugal, from 26 October to 1 November.
These world championships were hosted in Mossel Bay in December 2025, and gave the local athletes the rare opportunity to experience international-level competition close to home.
IJosef van Wyngaard and his two sons, Lukas and Daniël, have been selected to participate in the world championships.
