GEORGE NEWS - Usapho Indlu is an NPO working in Zone 7 in Thembalethu, where one of their programmes, the education centre, is producing excellent results in every area.
The centre has 48 learners from grades one to 12 attending every afternoon after school.
These learners are assisted by five staff members and volunteers who work with each child to meet their specific needs. Some learners have improved from 10% to 70% in one year, and this hugely impacts their school performance.
Some learners' parents also attend the programmes every morning, and are equipped to assist their children and be upskilled as adults prepared for the workplace.
School holidays are very busy, with recycling, clean-ups at the beach, nature walks in the forest and life skills workshops run by volunteers.
