GEORGE NEWS - The Western Cape Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) held their third provincial people's assembly on 14 and 15 October in Cape Town, where former Southern Cape regional secretary Mbulelo Magwala (37) was elected as the third provincial secretary of the EFF.
He spoke to George Herald after his election.
Mbulelo was born in George and was raised by a single parent, Nompazamo Magwala, together with his little brother, Sinethemba Magwala.
He attended school in various places in South Africa, including Middelburg/eMetele (Eastern Cape), Pretoria and Plettenberg Bay, where he matriculated at Murray High School.
He became involved in politics in 2013, serving the EFF as a volunteer worker until the end of 2014. In the year 2014 he was elected to be a Ward 11 George branch chairperson. During the 2016 local government election he was appointed as the sub-regional convener in George.
In 2018, at the first regional people's assembly, the young man was elected as regional secretary for the Southern Cape District, and did a second term in this position.
Before joining the EFF, he worked in different capacities for companies in George. Starting out at PnP as a security guard in 2005, he later became supervisor at PnP Precap Centre. He then joined Pioneer Foods where he worked as field marketer in different stores.
He has also had a stint in the liquor business, working as store manager for Picardi Rebel Thembalethu Square and sales representative for Boland Wines.
His last position before going into politics was representative for Colven Associates.
