It’s still unclear when Roelof Janse van Rensburg’s body will be repatriated.
He was killed after militants stormed a hotel in the north east of Mali last Friday and shot dead at least 12 people.
Two fellow South Africans who were with him on a United Nations keeping mission survived the attack.
Janse van Rensburg, also known as Jaco, spent his last moments messaging his wife Carina from his hotel room, telling her how he feared for his life.
But his phone battery died and they lost communication.
