NATIONAL NEWS - The Benoni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit (FCS) have launched a manhunt after an 11-days- the old baby girl was snatched from her mother on 22 February at Lakeside Mall at around 14:00.
Spokesperson Captain Nomsa Sekele said it is alleged that the 39-year-old mother met a woman who identified herself as Katlego at a clinic in Benoni and promised her a job.
“On Saturday, the mother received a call from someone who alleged that she was an employer from a certain company, offering her a job and that she must meet them at the mall with Katlego,” said Sekele.
“The woman met with Katlego at the mall and they waited for the employer at one of the food outlets.”
Sekele said as they were waiting, Katlego gave the mother money to go and buy something to eat at one of the stores.
“The woman left her baby and handbag with Katlego.
“When she returned from the store, Katlego had disappeared with the baby and her handbag,” said the spokesperson.
A case of kidnapping was opened at the Benoni SAPS and police are investigating.
