NATIONAL NEWS - South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) staff will go on strike on Thursday after the public broadcaster was issued a strike notice.
Workers affiliated to the Broadcasting, Electronic, Media & Allied Workers Union communications union (Bemawu) are protesting over a zero percent salary increase.
They say they have been waiting for nine months for a salary increase.
SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says: “We’re in a financial crisis as we speak. We’re unable to pay some of the people that we owe.
“For us, it’s important that all of those things be dealt with in a negotiation. Let’s reopen the negotiations and deal with these issues in an open and transparent manner.”
