Joburg police seize stolen cigarettes valued at R940,000

NATIONAL NEWS - Eight men were arrested on Tuesday afternoon for being in possession of stolen cigarettes valued at R940,000, Johannesburg Metro Police said.

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said members received a tip-off which led to the arrest of the suspects at around 1pm.

“They had robbed a truck which was transporting cigarettes on the N1 near the One Stop filling station,” Minnaar said.

The men had transferred the cigarettes into a mini-bus and were on their way to an address in Kibler Park, south of Johannesburg.

Minnaar said the men were charged with robbery and theft.
