GEORGE NEWS - Two former councillors of the Garden Route District Municipality might see more of each other on a national level as members of parliament - one will serve on the National Council of Provinces and the other on the National Assembly.
Virgill Gericke of the EFF joined the National Assembly in October last year, and has now been deployed to the National Council of Provinces for his second term.
Gericke is the former leader and founder of the PBI, a locally based political party. He previously served on the Garden Route District Council.
The DA's Eleanor Bouw-Spies will serve her second term as MP in the National Assembly. Bouw-Spies is a former speaker of the Garden Route District Municipality, and hails from Knysna.
She is the current Shadow Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs. Bouw-Spies is very excited about the next five years, and says she is realistic about the challenges that await the seventh parliament since the country's first democratic election in 1994.
DA MP Eleanor Bouw-Spies will serve her second term in the National Assembly.
