According to a report by Germany’s Autobild, the newcomer will be a spin-off of the new GLE, will seat seven and be known as the GLG. The publication however does not reveal any further details or indeed a source related to the rumour, merely stating the GLG will offer an off-road package with air suspension and three differential locks similar to the iconic G-class.
Power will come from a range of four, six and eight-cylinder turbo-petrol and turbodiesel engines, with a plug-in hybrid more than likely to follow suit.
At present though, with Mercedes-Benz set to introduce the GLE towards the end of this year followed by the GLS, GLE Coupe and later the smaller GLB, the GLG’s planned introduction should be taken with a pinch of salt as confirmed prototypes have not yet been spied testing.
