S450 and S560
In the same mould as the sedan, both the Coupe and Cabriolet receive minor tweaks to the exterior in the form of a revised front bumper and wider air intakes, new grille, multi-beam LED headlights, new alloy wheel designs and at the rear, a new bumper and OLED lights consisting of 66 ultra-flat LEDs supposed to create a floating effect.
Inside, the interior boasts the same expansive 12.3-inch dual screens as the sedan with three background display options (Classic, Sport and Progressive), as well as a new steering wheel, the latest COMAND navigation software with 3D functionality, and 64 colour ambient lighting palette.
Available as an option, both the Coupe and Cabriolet can be specified with Benz's Energising Comfort control that links the climate control, seats, lighting and music together to provide a tailored wellness setup mirroring the mood of driver. It consists of six settings; Freshness, Warmth, Vitality, Joy, Comfort and Training, and lasts for around ten minutes.
The list of new driver assistance systems also mirror those of the sedan, and includes Active Distance Control, Active Steering Assist, updated optional Magic Body Control suspension and on the Cabriolet, full Airmatic semi-active air suspension with variable damping.
Underneath the bonnet, the Coupe will be offered with a choice of two petrol engines sans the monstrous AMG S63 and S65, with the Cabriolet only receiving the most powerful unit again excluding the AMG models. Regardless of which engine, both are mated only to a 9G-Tronic gearbox.
In the Coupe, the base S450 comes powered by the a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 developing 270 kW and 500 Nm of torque, which, thanks to 4Matic all-wheel drive, allows it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 250 km/h.
At the top of the range, the new S560 Coupe and Cabriolet employ what Mercedes claims is the world's most economical V8 engine, which displaces 4.0-litres and is backed by two turbocharger to produce 345 kW and 700 Nm. While 4Matic+ is offered as an option on the Coupe, the Cabriolet sends its power the rear wheels only, with both models reaching a limited top speed of 250 km/h, and completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.6 seconds.
Sales of the facelifted S-class Coupe and Cabriolet are expected to commence sometime next year.
AMG S63 and S65
In addition to the same exterior additions as the regular Coupe and Cabriolet, both S63 and S65 also get the AMG GT R's Panamericana grille, forged 16-spoke 19 or 20-inch alloy wheels, gloss black air intakes on the flanks of the front bumper, twin AMG exhausts, new diffuser and side skirts, different splitter and chrome detailing on the S65.
The interior meanwhile retains most of the standard car's element, but adds Nappa leather sport seats with AMG badging, three-spoke AMG Performance sport steering wheel trimmed in Dinamica microfibre and expanded AMG menu on the infotainment system.
Power-wise, the S63, like the sedan, uses the same 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine as the S560, but with cylinder deactivation and power upped to 450 kW and torque to 900 Nm.
Dropping the previous seven-speed MCT 'box for the new nine-speed unit, the 63 will complete the 0-100 km/h dash in 3.5 seconds and top out at 250 km/h. As with the sedan though, right-hand-drive market S63's will sends their grunt to the rear wheels only with the sports optimised 4Matic+ setup reserved for left-hand-drive countries.
Completing the range, the S65 retains its trademark 6.0-litre bi-turbo V12 engine, now churning out a monstrous 463 kW and 1 000 Nm of torque. Mated to a seven-speed MCT gearbox with drive going to the rear wheels only, the S65 will do the benchmark sprint in 4.1 seconds before hitting the electronic buffers at 250 km/h.
AMG's Speed Sensitive steering with three modes (Comfort, Sport and Sport+), AMG Ride Control with similar settings, Launch Control and Dynamic Select with Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual modes are standard on the S63, with the S65 adding a Curve mode to the latter as well as AMG Dynamic Ride Control.
Like the standard S-class Coupe and Cabriolet, sales of the AMG range are also slated for next year.
