According to Best Car, the fourth generation IS will differ little from the current model in terms of size despite switching to the TNGA platform, but with an alleged weight drop of 155kg depending on the model and choice of drivetrain.
Moreover, the biggest change will come up front where sporting models will be equipped with the 3.0-litre turbocharged B58 straight-six engine used in the BMW M340i, Toyota Supra and BMW Z4, though other motors currently being developed include three four-cylinder units; a 2.0-litre, a 2.4-litre and a 2.5-litre that will be teamed to an electric motor for use in the IS hybrid.
The current range-topping normally aspirated 3.5-litre V6 mill will, however, be discontinued along with the 2.5-litre bent-six, while the IS F will be revived and powered by the 3.5-litre designated 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 used in the LS. This also means a swap from the eight-speed automatic to the 10-speed ‘box also employed in the LC.
At present, Lexus is only anticipated to debut the IS towards the end of next year or in 2021 with the F following 12 months later.
