While the Auris is already available in the United States as the Corolla hatch (pictured in Blue and inside) and from next month, Australia under the same name, the latest shots by motor1.com Brazil sees the sedan sporting the usual black-and-white masking instead of the previous heavy cladding, with a front-end clip resembling both the Auris and Prius as per Toyota’s Keen Look design language, and a rear boasting lights with what looks a central strip running underneath the bootlid as indicated by the leaked images from a Brazilian magazine last year.
In spite of the model’s visual similarities with the Japanese market Corolla Axio detailed in April, the international Corolla will be different in length and width, with the same applying to the range of engines.
Riding on the same TNGA platform as the Auris, Prius, C-HR, Camry and certain Lexus models, the Corolla will mirror the Auris underneath the bonnet as well, in the form of a 2.0-litre petrol engine known as Dynamic Force that produces 126kW/205Nm, or possibly even the 90kW 1.2-litre turbo-petrol.
For some markets, the Corolla will also offer a hybrid that mates the aforementioned 2.0-litre mill with an electric motor for a total system output of 134kW, or the same 1.8-litre used in the Prius. Like the Auris, no diesel engines will form part of the Corolla’s choice of powerunits, with transmissions likely to consist out of a six-speed manual or brand-new 10-step CVT.
Down Under, the Corolla hatch will be sold in three trim levels; Sport, SX and ZR, with the same nomenclatures expected for the sedan. As in the States, internal combustion power will come solely from the 2.0-litre petrol, while the 1.8 could serve as the hybrid option.
No word on whether the Corolla will debut has yet been made, although given the level of camouflage, expect a possible unveiling at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November or in early 2019.
