This, according to a future product teaser showed at the recent local launch of the new Triton, which also previewed the facelifted ASX and a rendering of what the next generation Mirage could look like.  

Unveiled at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show in Jakarta two years ago, the Xpander has proved to be hit in markets such as Thailand and Indonesia, and provides seating for seven with motivation coming from a normally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 77 kW and 141 N.m of torque.

Available in five trims in Indonesia, GLX, GLS, Exceed, Sport and Ultimate, the Xpander boasts a ground clearance of 205 mm and sends its amount of twist to the front wheels via a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox.

In addition to the Avanza and its more upscale sibling, the Toyota Rush, the Xpander will also face competition from the new Suzuki Ertiga, as well as the Honda BR-V when it does become available in South Africa. Build at Mitsubishi's Bekasi plant in West Java, the Xpander is priced from 189 050 000 to 245 350 000 Rupiah (R186 081-R241 497) in Indonesia with a reported 100 000 units having already been sold since its introduction.
