According to bmwblog.com, the idea of a hot X7 was allegedly considered as far back as 2016, and which could result in the newcomer wearing the X7 M or as previously hinted, M60i designation to fall in-line with the X3 and X4 (M40i) as well as the X5 and X6 (M50d).
While the choice of powertrain is shrouded in mystery, the blog post claims that the X7 M could produce in the region of the 600 PS or 441 kW, which means it will use the same 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8 as the M5 and forthcoming M8.
Until its arrival, the flagship X7, according to motor1.com, will allegedly come powered by the M850i’s take on the aforementioned motor, meaning an output of 390kW/750Nm. The inclusion of this powerplant, as well as that of the M5, will more than likely result in BMW opting to forego the M760Li’s 6.6-litre bi-turbo V12 for its sportiest model, although this as yet remains unconfirmed.
As reported previously, the X7 is expected to make its world reveal at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, while the X7 M is only likely to arrive next year or in 2020.
