Some background
Europe's foremost new car safety assessor since 1997, the overall results are based on the findings of four key areas; protection to adults, children, pedestrians and additional safety assist, with each vehicle being subjected to impacts from the front, rear, with a pole and with a crash test dummy substituting as a pedestrian at speeds ranging from 25 km/h to 64 km/h. The findings are then culminated and a rating out of five stars given.
Results
While a number of models tested so far are unlikely for local release, the Seat Ateca and Kia Niro being prime examples, the final report drew a number of interesting conclusions, especially since two vehicles, the sales topping Toyota Hilux and soon-to-arrive Suzuki Baleno, were tested with and without the optional safety packs.
