GEORGE NEWS - "I want to become famous through my love for the sport."
So says budding tennis player Raysean Appels from Thembalethu, who recently earned the chance to compete in two national tennis events in Bloemfontein from 27 March to 7 April.
As the number-one ranked player in the u.12 category in the province and ranking around 27th in the country, Raysean's talent and dedication have set him on a path to greatness since he started playing tennis two years ago.
However, for Raysean to have any hope of reaching his dreams, he needs your help.
As part of a local tennis programme, Raysean trains at the Rosemoor Tennis Centre at the sports stadium. "With his hard work, passion and natural ability, we believe he is ready to take his career to the next level. This will give him exposure and experience on the national stage," says proud coach Petrus Koekemoer.
But it's no secret that competing at a national level, no matter the sport, comes with significant costs. While Raysean's training has been fully supported by the programme, the upcoming tournaments require financial assistance.
R12 500 is needed to cover entry fees, accommodation, transport, training and meals.
A mother's proud heart
Raysean's single mother, Sue-ellen Appels, is beaming with pride. "I am overwhelmed with emotion as I reflect on the incredible person my son has become. From the moment he was born, I knew he was destined for something special. I am excited about what the future holds for him. He eagerly approaches everything in life.
"He wants to learn and improve. What fills me with the most pride is his thoughtfulness and compassion," she smiles.
"To my son: I want you to know how deeply you are loved and how much I believe in you. I am so proud of you. I will always be proud of you, no matter where life takes you."
How you can help
Sponsorships or donations of any amount would make a world of difference. Whether you're a local business, a sport enthusiast or simply someone who wants to support young talent, your contribution will help Raysean seize this incredible opportunity.
