GEORGE NEWS - A 40-year-old woman is due to appear in court today after she was arrested with 84 Mandrax tablets in Conville over the weekend.
According to Sgt Chris Spies, the provincial police spokesperson, members were busy with the Safer Festive Season operations, under the theme “Zizojika Izinto - Turning the tide against crime”, on Saturday 28 December when they received information on drug activity at a house in Pienaar Street.
Members from the Conville Police Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) and Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team responded to the information and searched the premises.
They found 84 Mandrax tablets hidden in a pillow in the bedroom and arrested the woman, who is the owner of the house.
In an unrelated incident in Oudtshoorn, the Public Order Police (Pops) arrested a 49-year-old suspect during an operation in Zebra Street on Friday 27 December on charges of dealing in drugs after tik with an estimated street value of R2000 was found at his residence.
Spies says drugs remains one of the biggest contributors to serious and violent crimes in some communities. Efforts to deal with the use and sale of drugs on the street as well as known drug outlets will be maintained throughout the festive period.
