A 30-minute rapid-fire auction of original works by Wilderness-based artist Ingrid Nuss raised R22 000 for the Adopt A Surfer foundation in Plettenberg Bay on Saturday 22 March.
On her website, Nuss describes surfing as one of the most influential balance-bringing aspects in her life. The Adopt A Surfer foundation that, according to its mission statement, empowers 'future change-makers through surfing and education', is therefore close to her heart.
Held at Timberlake Village in Wilderness, the event was touted as a documentary premiere and art experience. In addition to the hugely successful art auction and gallery exhibition, the event also featured touching poetry performances and live music by DJ Sadhu Sensi from Cape Town.
"The event was a huge success, I'm so grateful. We had 16 lots of which 15 were sold. Quite a few exhibition pieces also sold off the wall," said Nuss.
Titled Shifting Timelines, the collection is about taking an in-depth look at our existence and how much influence the perspectives and viewpoints we choose have on our experience of life, Nuss said.
A quote from the Shifting Timelines catalogue eloquently captures the essence of the theme: "Shifting Timelines is about looking at the possibilities of opening an expansive mindset where we tap into our innate power to change the way we experience our reality."
The premiere of the documentary The Wanderer, a short film contextualising the art and life of Nuss, was another highlight. Seats were full and the documentary was well received. Nuss said the documentary, a passion project independently initiated by Cape Town-based production company Origen Films, was an amazing way for her to not only get extra exposure but also better understand her own story.
