GEORGE NEWS - Flights to and from George Airport might be affected by the weather conditions today.
According to Mphilo Dlamini, head of corporate affairs and communications at the Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS), their projections are that flights might be disrupted today.
"However, so far the aircrafts are successfully landing. This may change as the weather changes."
Weather conditions have periodically been impacting flights for the most part of last year because of runway 11 whose instrument landing system (ILS) flight procedures have not been in place.
Dlamini earlier in January said the holdup in completing maintenance on runway 11 was because of a delay in obtaining approval for the ILS flight procedures on this runway.
The airport has completed a survey that is part of required maintenance and the survey report has been submitted to the South Africa Civil Aviation Association (SACAA) for approval. Once approved, ATNS would submit the flight procedure to SACAA for approval. The approval was being expected "pretty soon", Dlamini said at the time.
This morning he promised that ATNS will advise George Herald once approval is granted.
