Update
GEORGE NEWS - The elderly woman who was critically injured in a shooting incident at Voëlklip in Herold’s Bay over the weekend, died in hospital this morning, Tuesday 5 April, police confirmed.
The shooting took place on Sunday afternoon. The woman and her husband were found seated on a bench at one of the lookout points with gunshot wounds to their heads.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie earlier said a passer-by discovered the body of a man with his wife seated next to him. The wife was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
"It is believed that the couple in their mid to late seventies walked from their home in Herold's Bay to one of the lookout points at Voëlklip. It's further alleged that the husband first shot his wife and thereafter himself," Pojie said.
“Initially an inquest and an attempted murder docket were opened for further investigation by George detectives, but the attempted murder docket will most probably be changed to that of murder,” Pojie said this morning.
Police will not be releasing the identity of the deceased as requested by the couple’s family.
