Update
GEORGE NEWS - On Sunday 28 August, the family of murder victim Leslie van Zyl will relive the dreadful event which ended their daughter's life 22 years ago, on the turn of the millennium.
Interest in this cold case has since produced two podcasts.
The first was produced and hosted by Nicole Engelbrecht of True Crime South Africa on 17 December last year, with the help of George Herald, while the second one, Unsolved Murders SA: Was the murder of Leslie van Zyl a crime of passion? was released by Swisher Post on 29 January this year.
Leslie van Zyl's mom, Christine Brockbanks, said listening to these podcasts was really heart-breaking. "But if it helps bring things to light it is worth it," she said.
The introduction to Engelbrecht's production reads as follows: "Leslie van Zyl booked into the Protea Hotel in George on the 28th of August 2000. She did not leave alive. In the years that followed her family would push for justice, but the 'do not disturb' sign Leslie's killer hung on the hotel room door, seemed to apply to his crime too."
Leslie van Zyl was a 28-year-old Liberty Life insurance representative from Fish Hoek who regularly travelled to George on business.
Leslie van Zyl (28) was murdered on 28 August 2000 in the King George Hotel.
On the morning of 29 August 2000 she was found dead in her hotel bathroom at the King George Hotel, with multiple stab wounds and signs of strangulation.
Up till now no-one has come forward with any new information. Brockbanks holds on to the hope that someday, someone might shed some light on what happened that night..
