GEORGE NEWS - Tuiniqua Care Centre hosted a tree planting event on Tuesday 29 July, in celebration of a huge milestone - 40 years of being in operation.
Members of the board of trustees, management, residents, staff, guests and supporters came together to be part of the moment.
When the first residents moved in during June 1985, the kitchen of the Mother Church’s hall was used to prepare meals for them. The centre’s own kitchen and dining room were opened in 1988.
“Planting the beautiful pompom trees [Dais cotinifolia] symbolised the growth, love and devotion that are Tuiniqua’s hallmark. Just as a tree provides shade, shelter and nourishment, Tuiniqua has created an environment in which residents can thrive,” said the manager, Alani Voigt.
She thanked the Tuiniqua Service Centre for making the event possible, as well as the board of trustees, staff, donors and families whose contributions enable Tuiniqua to render its services.
“We look forward to many more years of loving care and dedicated service. May these trees grow strong and tall - a living symbol of Tuiniqua’s lasting legacy that has enriched so many lives.”
