GEORGE NEWS - Two suspects, Wesley Roux (23) and Evan Dylan Pietersen (21), were arrested by provincial traffic officers in Blanco after a 72-year-old man was robbed of his cellphone at about 12:50 on Wednesday 4 May.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, the victim was mugged near the bridge in Montagu Street in Blanco. The suspects fled on foot.
The victim alerted two traffic officers who were on patrol nearby and accompanied the officers in search of the suspects.
"The officers caught up with the pair near the petrol station in Montagu Street, and searched them. They found the stolen phone, dagga and a knife in their possession. The suspects were subsequently arrested," said Pojie.
The accused appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on Friday 6 May on charges of robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of a dangerous weapon and dagga. They were remanded in custody to appear in court again yesterday, Thursday 12 May.
