GEORGE NEWS - Proteas batter Tazmin Brits is a fierce opponent on the cricket field, but she has a very soft heart when it comes to animals.
That's why she was at Heather Park Spar on Mandela Day, to help raise donations for Oudtshoorn Dogs in Need (Odin).
She joined Marlene Mennie of Odin at the Spar on Friday, when they raised awareness of the organisation's dire need for assistance.
Together with two lovely Odin puppies, Zazza and Chi, Brits drew a lot of attention from the shoppers.
She is a passionate animal lover and acquired her own dog, Brooke, from the Stilfontein SPCA near Klerksdorp, where she lives. Tazmin's two cats were also rescued, and she adopted them from Paws in Potchefstroom.
While she travels around for tournaments and training camps, her aunt in Klerksdorp looks after her animal children.
"I always try to use what I can as a public figure to promote the well-being of animals," said Brits. Her own contribution to Odin was 200kg of mealie meal.
Odin, a non-profit organisation, is always in need of food, blankets and medication for some 200 rescued dogs in its care.
