GEORGE NEWS - Rumours that a march will take place between Thembalethu and the Garden Route Mall today, Tuesday 13 July, have been found to be nothing but fake news.
Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, confirmed that their office has been inundated with enquiries about an alleged march.
He said that the spreading of these unconfirmed messages and rumours cause unnecessary panic and havoc that is detrimental to stability within communities.
“The police have noted a message that is doing the rounds on social media about a march which will allegedly take place on Tuesday 13 July from Thembalethu to a mall situated in George. People must restrain themselves from spreading these inflammatory and unfounded messages. The broader public is cautioned to act responsible by resisting any attempts to incite violence,” Pojie said.
Pojie did however confirm that local police members are on high alert and will be operationally ready should anything happen.
