GEORGE NEWS - Transport Month in George kicked off with an annual roadblock initiative hosted by local and provincial traffic authorities, in partnership with the George Municipality.
The focus of the day was road safety awareness. The site on the N2 between George and Mossel Bay was a flurry of activity, with officers pulling over surprised motorists - not to issue fines, but to check licences and remind them that it's Transport Month. Many even left with small gifts sponsored by Old Mutual.
Moffat Zukelua of Provincial Traffic explained the purpose of the roadblock was to share an important message.
"We are heading into the festive season, and we urge motorists to drive safely and wear their seatbelts - especially since today marks the start of the school holidays."
Tanja Botha and her team of the George Municipality's Environmental Health Department handed out some informative infographics to truck drivers and motorists, highlighting the dangers of vehicle exhaust smoke.
Did you know that white exhaust smoke signals potential trouble?
The AA confirms this in its article, "What White Car Exhaust Smoke Means and How to Fix It" (19 September 2024): The issue is serious and requires immediate attention, as continued driving can lead to more extensive engine damage. If you suspect a blown head gasket, the AA recommends having your vehicle inspected and repaired by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible to ensure safety and keep your car running smoothly.
