PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plans for the multimillion rand annual student festival, Plett Rage, are in full swing with several new aspects added to the event.
Not only are tickets sales nearly sold out for the festival – which brings thousands of school leavers to Plettenberg Bay every year and contributes about R50-million to the local economy over the period, organisers have also introduced Rage News ’18 to provide information about the event over the coming weeks.
The dates for this year’s event have been set for between November 30 and December.
“With hosting such a big event, involving so many people, come several challenges. None more so than the perceived impact, both negative and positive, from within the local community… Rage News ’18 will bring updates, insights and information that will go some way to answering any lingering queries you may have, as well as broadening horizons so that we all become more informed. But this isn’t just a one-way street. Questions that are raised will be answered which in turn will alleviate any confusion and conjecture that may exist,” the organisers say.
New developments
There are several new and existing structural developments around this year’s festival, including the Rage Trust, Rage4Good and Friends of the Festival.
The Rage Trust, comprising a committee of local entities such as the local ratepayers' association and the Plett Business Forum, is set to oversee the distribution of funds to local nonprofit enterprises and associations that work in support of the event.
According to the organisers, Rage4Good has been assisting children and local schools educational programmes for underprivileged youngsters. “Now entering its fifth year, Rage4Good will provide continual assistance to those communities and implement new programmes.”
Friends of the Festival involves support to local businesses. “There has been some confusion in the past on the best ways that business owners can get involved with the event without official Rage accreditation. Friends of the Festival is where you’ll find the best practice solutions to make the most of the opportunities that will be on offer,” organisers say.
