GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Members of Nehawu, the National Education Health & Allied Workers' Union, are voicing their grievances in front of the Department of Transport and Public Works in St John's Street through peaceful picketing.
Mawa Brown, regional coordinator, said they are frustrated by the recruitment and selection processes, as well as tender processes, that they feel are excluding black contractors.
Nepotism and racism, he says, are two huge factors they hope management will deal with.
The group are awaiting someone from management to hand over their memorandum.
"If they don't come, we will still read our memorandum," said Brown. They are demanding feedback within the next 14 days. "Otherwise we will organise a massive protest action," said Brown. Enquiries will be sent to the department in this regard.
