GEORGE NEWS - George will host the official opening of the parliament and the premier's state of the province (Sopa) address next year, on 25 February.
Speaker Daylin Mitchell announced his excitement for this event - the official opening of the third session of the Seventh Parliament of the Western Cape and the Premier's State of the Province Address - scheduled to take place at the Conville Community Hall at 18:30.
The debate on Sopa and the premier's reply will take place at the same venue at 08:00 and 12:00 respectively on Thursday 26 February.
"The Western Cape Provincial Parliament [WCPP] is committed to deepening democracy and endeavours to provide access to its activities to people from across the province," said Mitchell.
"Since 2019, we have hosted this important event in Mitchells Plain in the Cape Metropolitan District, in Genadendal in the Overberg District, in Velddrif in the West Coast District, in Paarl in the Cape Winelands District and in Beaufort West in the Central Karoo District. Hosting this event in George in the Garden Route District in 2026 means that the WCPP will have taken this event to all six districts in the Western Cape."
