GEORGE NEWS - Master organist from the Eastern Cape, Christiaan Carstens, will be giving an organ recital in the Dutch Reformed Mother Church on Thursday 28 February.
Going under the banner "Organ Suite", the concert includes works by Bach, Bédard, Bruhns, Françiax and Hurford. Parts of this programme will also be performed at the Woordfees in Stellenbosch.
Christiaan Carstens studied at the universities of Stellenbosch, Port Elizabeth and South Africa. In 1995 and 1996 he furthered his music studies with Prof Jan Raas at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht, the Netherlands, where he earned high praise for his recitals.
Back in South Africa he was the first candidate to receive the Unisa Concert Diploma.
Carstens performed with the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra on various occasions. He is organist of the DRC Humansdorp and is teacher at the Nico Malan High School in Humansdorp.
Tickets can be bought at the door at R50 per person. The recital starts at 19:00.
