GEORGE NEWS - Legendary local marathon athlete Louis Massyn is set to make history this year as he takes on his 50th Comrades Marathon.
This will cement Massyn's place as the first athlete to complete the Comrades 50 times.
What makes this achievement even more extraordinary is that Massyn will be running in support of Binah and Legacy Centre, a non-profit organisation that provides support to children with special needs, including autism.
The organisation aims to create awareness and promote understanding and acceptance of children with special needs.
Massyn, who has been allocated the permanent race number 403, has been an iconic figure in the Comrades since his first completion in 1973.
He has gone on to complete some of the world's most prestigious marathons, including Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York, earning him the coveted Six Star Medal.
"I am honoured to be running my 50th Comrades Marathon in support of Binah and Legacy Centre," said Massyn. "These organisations do incredible work in supporting children with special needs, and I am proud to be a part of their efforts."

Funds raised through Massyn's campaign will go towards purchasing educational materials for children with special needs.
"We are thrilled to have Louis supporting our organisation," says Mariza van Deventer, founder of Binah and Legacy Centre. "His dedication to our cause is a testament to his character, and we are grateful for his support."
