GEORGE NEWS - Low levels of trust among the diverse communities in George, widespread disregard for human dignity and sanctity of life, as well as a lack of unity in the faith community of the city, are issues that deeply concern the leaders behind the Love in Action initiative.
Following a workshop hosted by Love in Action in February this year where leaders from all walks of life were invited to give their input, the George Kingdom Council was formed to drive the process of searching for and implementing ways to bring about change for the better.
The council is an inclusive movement of Christian leaders from different sectors of society and different levels of the local community.
Opinions and proposals that came forth from the workshop in February were carefully contemplated. The result is a manifesto that has now been issued by the Kingdom Council to inform the public of how they think change can be accomplished.
According to the manifesto, distrust and disunity in our local communities and disrespect for human dignity are contributing factors that give rise to broken families, lack of discipline in schools, high levels of domestic violence, crime, poverty, corruption, anger and hatred.
Actions they want to pursue to bring about change include continual prayer, providing support to ethical leaders, bringing people together so they can learn to know each other better and trust can be rebuilt, and facilitating a unifying fraternal in the Christian faith community.
Other actions include a "multi-stakeholder" forum where representatives from all sectors of society can seek solutions for the plight of George's citizens and contribute towards the well-being and prosperity of the city.
They also want to grow the movement by encouraging people to bring whatever they have available in terms of gifts and means.
