GEORGE NEWS - An alleged bike thief had an unplanned meeting with the police after vigilant members of the community apprehended him on a stolen bicycle in Augusta Street in King George Park on Thursday 11 June.
Southern Cape police spokesperson, sergeant Chris Spies, said that George police attended to the incident after the suspect was apprehended.
Though the suspect was carrying a panga and the bicycle was stolen, neither the suspect nor the bicycle can be linked to an incident that occurred in the Witfontein plantation area on Tuesday afternoon, 9 June, where armed robbers mugged two youngsters and took off with their bicycles.
"There is currently no evidence linking the two incidents," Spies said.
The owner of the bicycle was later traced, but did not open a case.
The suspect was armed with a panga.
