GEORGE NEWS - Photos of a black Corsa bakkie (registration CAW 11971) parked illegally in front of the exit of ER24 Ambulance Service were sent to the George Herald by a concerned resident.
According to the resident, he was enjoying a cup of coffee over lunch when he noticed the bakkie pulling up. The car stopped right in front of the gate of the emergency exit of ER24 where ambulances move in and out. The driver parked on the yellow lines, ignoring the large sign on the gate and other signs prohibiting parking.
"The owner climbed out of his bakkie, looked around and walked away. He was away for more than 30 minutes, casually strolling along without the slightest care in the world. Fortunately a traffic official was at hand to write a ticket. But where does it stop? Fines aren't enough. What if an emergency call came in? Where must the ambulances then exit?" states the irate resident in his letter.
An appeal is made to motorists to keep to legal parking spaces and hold them by the rules of the road.
A municipal law enforcement official writes the irresponsible driver a ticket.
