GEORGE NEWS - Residents with an interest in conservation, botany and sustainable land management are invited to attend a hands-on ecological restoration talk at the Garden Route Botanical Garden later this month.
The event, titled ‘Hands-on Ecological Restoration in Practice’, will take place at the garden’s Environmental Education Centre from 13:00 to 14:30 on Sunday 15 February.
Local restoration practitioner Corné Brink will share practical lessons drawn from her work at the Grootvadersbosch Conservancy, focusing on nursery design, species cultivation and capacity-building. Brink has a background in botany and conservation and specialises in the active restoration of fynbos, forest and riparian systems, combining ecological science with community-based approaches.
The talk will unpack insights gained from an ecological restoration project implemented over the past few years and will explore key regional ecological lessons, the challenges of long-term sustainability, and the importance of collaboration in achieving effective restoration outcomes.
With growing pressure on natural ecosystems, the presentation aims to offer practical knowledge relevant to landowners, conservation practitioners, students and members of the public interested in environmental restoration.
Tickets cost R150, which includes tea, coffee and cake. Seating is limited, and advance booking is essential.
Bookings: WhatsApp or phone 081 858 7225.
