GEORGE NEWS - Many will be glued to the TV for the Rugby World Cup final on Saturday 2 November. But if you need a break from the action, or if you make a quick dash for braai supplies, keep an eye out for the SPCA's street collection.
From 08:00 to 18:00 the Garden Route SPCA's tireless volunteers will be shaking their tins at traffic lights and shops around George - Pick n Pay, Checkers, Spar, Van Rensburgs, Golden Harvest and Builders Warehouse.
"Our collections usually earn around R40 000," says organiser Deb Patrick."This is a great testament to the generosity of the people of George and the managers who kindly let us collect at their stores."
All the money collected goes directly to the Garden Route SPCA. They use it to buy food, to treat sick and injured animals and to keep their inspectors on the road investigating cases of cruelty and neglect.
"Please keep some cash with you to share with us," says Patrick. "All your donations, however small, make a great big difference to the animals in need."
