Update
GEORGE NEWS - The ongoing FlySafair pilot strike, understood to involve two-thirds of its aviators, has had minimal impact on flights to and from George Airport to date.
FlySafair’s chief marketing officer, Kirby Gordon, said the fact that it was low season largely contributed to the airline’s ability to cope with the reduction in available pilots without significant impact.
He said while no Cape Town-George flights were affected, they have combined two Johannesburg-George flights per day, which means there is only one fewer flight per day.
“Some days we would have flown five times, and this week it will be four times. Other days would have been four, but it will be three,” he said.
Gordon said with another meeting scheduled between the parties tomorrow, the airline was hoping for an earlier resolution to the strike than the planned two weeks.
In the meantime, customers who have booked flights with FlySafair are advised to consult the airline’s travel updates page to check if their flights are any of the affected ones. If they are, they have a few options.
These include choosing a new flight for the same route if there is one available, picking an entirely new flight for a future journey, or cancelling the flight and receiving a voucher for the full value of the flight costs, which will be valid for 12 months.
