SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS & VIDEOS - The gale force winds in the Southern Cape are making it nearly impossible to fight the fires between Sedgefield and Buffalo Bay.
The fires are out of control and the N2 has been closed since this morning.
Air support has been suspended.
Traffic is being stopped at the eastern end of the town, but according to journalists Myron Rabinowitz and Wessel van Heerden, the town is not under threat as the fire is burning about 10km to the east.
Residents from Ruigtevlei who were evacuated earlier are being housed in Sedgefield Primary and Buffelo Bay residents are stuck on the beach.
Communication is a huge problem as cellphone signals are very weak.
Cars are backed up through Sedgefield and motorists are advised to find accommodation or return home.
Alternative route via N9 Joubertinia, if travelling between PE and Cape Town.
