GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The driver of a white Volkswagen Jetta with a CAW registration number was burnt beyond recognition in a crash on the N2 on Monday evening, 22 April at the Gouritz River bridge.
Western Cape Traffic chief Kenny Africa said it was a head-on collision between a truck and the Volkswagen. The accident happened at about 21:00. The Jetta was travelling in the direction of Cape Town when the crash occurred.
"Both vehicles burned out and the driver of the Volkswagen was burnt beyond recognition," said Africa.
The N2 had to be closed in both directions because of the burning vehicles. No one else was injured in the accident.
The identity of the deceased has been established but police are waiting for DNA results before a name and surname can be released. The cause of the crash will be investigated.
