Snow White: The Ballet (16:00) at the George Arts Theatre. Presented by Megan Wille School of Ballet.
A timeless tale reimagined through the grace of dance - a magical journey of beauty, jealousy and courage, from royal courts to enchanted forests. So Over the Rainbow (19:00) at the Market Community Theatre. Solo performance by Rondo Mpiti-Spies, written by Mike van Graan and directed by Dion van Niekerk. 20 June:
I Can Buy Myself Flowers (19:00) at the Market Community Theatre. Solo performance by Erika Breytenbach, written by Mike van Graan and directed by Toni Morkel. A comedy-drama centered on Natalie Jackson, a spirited estate agent in her 50s. Through storytelling laced with humour and drama, Natalie reflects on relationships, parenting, ageing and societal expectations around gender and sex. 22 June:
To Life, With Love (16:00) at the Market Community Theatre. Solo performance by John Maytham, written by Mike van Graan and directed by Josh Lindberg. This lyrical and poignant show explores the joys, challenges and profound beauty of existence. The Sound of Music at the Arts Theatre. Evening performances and matinees, over a three-week period.
A timeless tale of resilience, love and the transformative power of music, The Sound of Music follows the heartfelt journey of Maria, a spirited postulant from Nonnberg Abbey, set against the stunning backdrop of the Austrian Alps in 1938. Sent to serve as governess for the seven children of the stern and widowed Captain Georg von Trapp, Maria brings joy, laughter and music back into their lives. As she wins the hearts of the children, and eventually the Captain, a tender romance blossoms.
18-26 July:
Songlines South Africa (18:30 and 14:00 matinee) at the Market Community Theatre. Discovering the treasure trove of styles in our cultures. Songlines South Africa is a collaboration between the Market Community Theatre, Siyakhona Youth Devekopment and singing and dance schools in George. It is a celebration of our differences and our uniqueness in dance and music. The shows are also a fundraiser for the Market Community Theatre. Tickets cost R120. Bookings: Heather on 072 369 3304.
