MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A 39-year-old Gondwana Private Game Reserve employee was reportedly trampled to death by an elephant while he was out on the grounds this morning, 22 July.
The reserve is just outside Mossel Bay.
The KwaNonqaba Police Station’s spokesperson, Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp, said preliminary reports from witnesses on the scene indicate that the employee was on the grounds at about 08:00 this morning when he was trampled and mauled by the elephant.
Kapp said emergency medical services declared the man dead on the scene. The elephant has been moved from the area where the incident took place.
He said an inquest docket has been opened and the investigation is ongoing.
The employee’s name is known to Mossel Bay Advertiser, however, he cannot be named until his next of kin have been informed of his death.
