Update
GEORGE NEWS - The public is reminded that black bags are not being collected this week and are requested to please take in any black bags that they may have put out.
The service was closed for 14 days on 1 June after staff in this section tested positive for Covid-19 and will resume on Monday 15 June.
The George Municipality Transfer Station on the R102 (airport road) is open for the dropping off of black bags for those wanting to make use of this option.
All Covid-19 measures are in place at the transfer station and people will be required to furnish personal details (please take your own pen with you) and be sanitised before entering.
Entry will be refused should someone not be willing to follow Covid-19 precautions.
Access to the landfill site remains closed to the general public – please use green garden refuse bags and place with your household refuge on your collection day at home.
Blue and green bag collection for recyclables and garden refuse continues as usual. Please DO NOT place general waste in blue and green bags. Only blue bags containing recyclables and green bags containing garden waste will be collected.
The transfer station is open Monday to Friday 07:30-17:00 and Saturday 08:00-14h:0 (closed on Sundays). The entrance is on the R102 (Airport Road) - from York Street turn towards the airport and look out for the signage on the left.
The George Municipality remains committed to service delivery in the face of ongoing Covid-19 challenges and thanks the public for their understanding and support during this time.
