GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality urges local businesses, organisations or institutions that receive threats of violence or looting to take place on Monday 20 March - the date set for the national EFF shutdown - to lay a complaint of intimidation with their nearest police station and to inform the municipality.
The municipality’s call is made in agreement with fellow Western Cape municipalities that have issued this call to their local areas.
While the municipality does support the right to gather and protest peacefully, it does not condone threats of violence, looting and intimidation.
Any form of violence, looting, damage to property or intimidation is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. Such threats should be registered with the police immediately – whether it is a phone call, email or letter.
The George traffic, law enforcement and fire services departments remain on alert in collaboration with the police, Pops, neighbourhood watches and other relevant stakeholders involved in safety and security.
The George Municipality remains open on Monday 20 March, and municipal service delivery will continue.
