GEORGE NEWS – The body of the man who was found under the Maalgate bridge on Friday 22 May has been identified as Gerald Links (35) from Lawaaikamp.
According to Warrant Officer Chris Spies, Southern Cape police spokesperson, an inquest docket was opened after Links’ body was discovered at about 11:15 near the river below the bridge on the R102.
“The next of kin of the deceased was traced and an autopsy to determine the cause of death was conducted. No foul play is suspected. The deceased was not reported as missing,” said Spies.
Police found a hospital slip containing an address in Lawaaikamp among Links’ personal belongings, which assisted in tracing and identifying him.
His next of kin were notified and formally identified him earlier this week.
