CRIME NEWS - George police have sent out a request for the public to come forward with any information that could assist them to trace the next of kin of a man who was found dead under the Maalgate bridge yesterday, Friday 22 May.
According to Warrant Officer Chris Spies, Southern Cape spokesperson, an inquest docket was opened. He said the body was discovered at about 11:15.
“According to initial reports, police responded to a scene on the R102 where the body was found. On arrival, the members were directed to the body under the Maalgate bridge near the water. The man was declared dead by medical personnel on the scene.”
He said police members also found a hospital slip with an address in Lawaaikamp among the personal belongings of the deceased.
“The police already visited the address, but were unable to trace his next of kin.”
An autopsy to determine the cause of death will be conducted next week.
The investigating officer, Sergeant Nathan Buys, has asked the public to come forward with information.
The man was dressed in a grey top and denim jeans at the time of the discovery.
