GEORGE NEWS - A woman from Thembalethu who was arrested on drug-related charges at her home on Thursday 3 November, Thembela Kowa (33), appeared in the Thembalethu Magistrate's Court for a formal bail application yesterday, Wednesday 9 November.
She was granted bail of R5 000 with strict bail conditions which include having to report to the police station every Monday and Friday.
Police confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R1,4m during an intelligence-driven operation at premises in Johannes Street, Zone 9.
At the residence, the police noticed Kowa surreptitiously throwing a key on the ground. The key was used to unlock a room where 19 bankies of Mandrax and tik were found stashed in the ceiling.
Police confiscated 19 117 Mandrax tablets and 1,3kg of tik. Kowa was arrested on the scene.
The case serves in front of Magistrate Nelson Maluadzi.

More drugs, same street
In an unrelated incident, a total of 54 Mandrax tablets and 13 bankies of tik estimated at about R7 200 were confiscated from another residence in the same street. A 34-year-old man was arrested in connection with the discovery.
Both suspects remain in police custody. They will appear in court once charged.
