Chamber representative Wessel van Heerden reports that this morning, an informative session started at the Protea King George Hotel where a wide range of speakers are addressing a group of prospective entrepreneurs who have completed a business training programme presented by the George Chamber earlier this year.
The speakers are focusing on motivating their audience and sharing advice on what to expect when they venture out into the business world as entrepreneurs.
AHi CEO Dr Ernest Messina spoke about respect - for oneself and one's fellow beings. "As a businessperson you must always do what you do with integrity. There is nothing wrong with wanting to make money, but greed is evil."
He said passion alone will not ensure success, but it must be accompanied by true commitment.
Referring to Richard Branson who went "broke" several times before tasting success, Messina said, "Failure is also part of business and you have to be able to get up again. Failure is never fatal."
Deputy Mayor Daniël Maritz in his presentation said that George faces huge socio-economic challenges. "We need young entrepreneurs as they are the driving force to ensure a sustainable future."
He also encouraged the group to have a positive outlook. "Success starts in your mind. The thoughts you sow will determine the deeds you reap."
George Chamber President Dr Willie Cilliers told his audience, "Do you think South Africa needs you? Yes, South Africa needs you. You will form a crucial part of the economy. Remember you must dig deep through the dirt to get to the diamond."
