GEORGE NEWS - An initiative to empower people living on the streets of George to rebuild their lives is off the ground and flying.
Two groups of these people under their own brand names, S&D Creations (sewing) and A&A Jewellery Design, are producing beautiful, handcrafted products which include handbags, sling bags, indoor and outdoor aprons for braaiing, and jewellery.
Everything is crafted using donated materials.
The initiative is the brainchild of George Municipality’s community development division and is aimed at skills development.
The municipality invites all residents to form a part of this amazing initiative.
They can help to create more work opportunities for the homeless and encourage people to get off the streets and rebuild their lives.
Custom orders
Members of the public interested in buying any of the products are encouraged to visit the community development offices on the corner of Varing and St John’s streets.
Purchases can be made directly from the participants during their work hours, or customers can discuss their own design preferences and place customised orders.
Curtain production and clothing repairs
Apart from handbags and aprons, the sewing group also offers curtain production, clothing repairs and alteration services.
