GEORGE NEWS - Up until now a total of 99 families have had the great joy of moving into their own homes in Phase 2 of the Upgrading of Informal Settlements Programme (UISP) project in Thembalethu.
The contractor, Lawula and Marnol JV (Joint Venture), finished Phase 1 of the project in April, having commenced Phase 2 on 19 January, with 250 top structures being awarded to them to be completed on 31 December.
The cost of a serviced property (with all municipal services) amounts to R43 000 and the top structures R111 000. The Enhanced People's Housing Process (EPHP) housing programme was implemented in this project, which added more value to the project, because the participants were given the opportunity to have a say in the final product that would be delivered to them.
Phase 1 of the UISP, in which a total of 150 houses were built and handed over, commenced on 27 February 2017 and was completed on 30 April 2018.
